Description: The popular lake is shaped like a horseshoe. The peninsula, rather the inside of the horseshoe, was at one time a natuaral island. In the 1950’s before all the restrictions of the DNR, Mr. Murray filled in a section of the water with land and the island became a peninsula. His purpose in filling it in was that he no longer wanted his cows to cross over on the ice to get to the island. The DNR maintains a public access site on Causeway Drive. There you will find a hard surface boat launch with parking for about 20 cars and a vault style toilet. Murray Lake is located in Grattan Township in Kent County. This all sports Michigan lake of 320 acres of surface waters with reported depths of up to 75 feet, is the third largest lake in Kent county.
