Description: Big Evans Lake is part of the Martiny Chain of Lakes which include Lost Lake, Tubbs Lake, Upper Evans Lake, Lower Evans Lake, Upper Evans Lake, Saddlebag Lake, Boom Lake, Bass Lake, and Dogfish Lake. For a estimated 1700 acres of surface waters. Much of the Martiny Chain of Lakes frontage is in the Michigan state game area which prevents it from being developed. The lakeshore is in a largely natural state providing a home for the deer, raccoons, beavers, otters, bear, wood ducks, nesting osprey, loons, herons, bald eagles, mallards, geese, swans and many other types of wildlife. In 1955, the Winchester Dam was built on Tubbs Lake as part of the Martiny Chain Of Lakes project. This project raised the water levels by more than 8ft. over 1600 acres of the Martiny Lakes State game area, thereby connecting all the lakes. Some fishermen say that some of the best fishing is found in the Martiny Chain of Lakes. Bass, Bluegill, Northern Pike, Yellow Perch, Warmouth, Pumpkinseed, Black Crappie, Bullhead and Dogfish are abundantly found in the Martiny Chain of Lakes. Though out the area are several resorts and campgrounds. In the middle of the chain of lakes a 600 acre island is just waiting to be explored!
