Shell Lake

Elliot Rd goes south from Lake Shore Dr. to Elliot Point where Harry Elliot from Bellefontaine OH built a cabin in late 1950s. He sold two plots of his 100 acre plot to family Vincent (from Springfield OH) and Keneth (from Degraff OH) Angle. Each had cabins built about 100 yards w. of Elliots. These block cabins were built by their father, Jon Wilbert Angle of Dayton Ohio.The white sand beaches in front of these cabins is still (2020) in view from Elliots Point at the end of Elliot Rd. This road is difficult travel as park service does not maintain it. All three cabins have been taken down and removed. Elliot Rd is little more than a path but worth the drive if your vehicle has good ground clearance. It is described as a good fishing lake but it is NOT. It is a very shallow lake barely more than 10 feet deep. In the late 50s there was an old resort building on the S.W. end of the lake but that also is gone. A boat launch site is at the far west end of the lake and also one from Elliots Point. A great destination for a day trip.
